Medieval Florence, Italy

Florence is a city in Italy that buzzes with excitement on a normal day. This system resembles a bee hive... the art is like the comb, the citizens are the workers, and Giovanni is the head of the hive. Ruled by Giovanni di Bicci de' Medici from 1360-1429, the city became very wealthy. But although Medici ruled, the Popes were very powerful as well. The popes made sure that religious ways were followed correctly by the citizens. If not, they had the power to punish them.

Artwork from Florence was beautiful and the city became very wealthy because the merchants had the ability to create jobs and trade. Florence ran smoothly because the people helped each other out. The system of Florence also ran well because Medici had the loyalty of his people, so there wasn't much conflict due to that factor. Furthermore, Florence was successful because trade made the commoners wealthy. Although some may believe that the Medieval people if Florence, Italy were primitive, this web site will prove that the Florentines (people of Florence) were nearly as advanced as we are, if only in a different way.
