OLYMPIANS

The Olympians were like a tornado, rushing through the Greek city, they could do whatever they wanted and go wherever they wanted. The powerful Olympians were 12 Greek gods that ruled after the overthrow of the Titans. All of the Olympians are related in some way. Each of the Olympians were named after Mount Olympus.

One of the Olympians is Zeus who overthrew his father Cronus. He is also the supreme ruler of gods. Zeus is the lord of the sky and is the rain god. If another god or human displeases Zeus or breaks an oath, Zeus would punish them by hurling his weapon, the thunderbolt, at them. Poseidon, the brother of Zeus, is the lord of the sea and is greatly worshiped by sailors. The sailors worshiped Poseidon in hope of good weather and good sailing. He created the horse and his weapon is the trident.

Hades, another one of Zeus's brothers, is the lord of the Underworld making him the ruler of the dead and god of wealth. Hera is Zeus's sister and wife. She is the protector of marriage. Ares is the son of Zeus and is the god of war. Athena is fierce and brave in battle. It is said that she sprang full grown from Zeus's forehead with armor on.

She is the goddess of the city, agriculture, and handicrafts. She invented the bridle so that mankind could tame horses. Athena is Zeus's favorite daughter and so she was allowed to us his weapons. Apollo is the god of music, playing the golden lyre, light, truth, and healing. He taught man medicine and gave them light. Apollo drives the sun across the sky. Aphrodite is the goddess of love, desire, and beauty. She has a magical girdle that she would use to make humans or gods fall in love with her. Hermes is the son of Zeus and also Zeus's messenger. He is the fastest of all gods. Hermes wears a winged hat, winged sandals, and carried around a magical wand. He is the god of thieves and commerce and he also guides the dead to the Underworld. Haphaestus is the god of fire and forge and makes the weapons for the gods to use. Artemis is the daughter of Zeus and she is the lady of wild things. Artemis is the protector of the young. Hestia, another Olympian, is the sister of Zeus. People worship certain gods for certain things. Zeus would choose to bring people that worshiped him things like good weather. Poseidon would have sailors have a safe trip across the sea. People who worship Athena asked to win in a battle or war. She can choose to give them what they asked for or not. Like the Titans, the Olympians were very powerful but they also helped other gods and certain people. The gods would only help the people that they liked and if they didn't like them they wouldn't help them. These gods are very unpredictable.
