The Gods exist in the people's mind's to give them an explanation for every day occurrences. They gave a belief that there is an afterlife to the people, and they gave confidence to the people in everyday life. The Gods got in return offerings, prayers, and sacrifices. The Egyptian gods were depicted as people with the heads of animals, because they were believed to be Theophanies ( THE-ofa-nie), "images that represent the gods in different forms or manifestations." Since The Egyptians were surrounded by wild life, they believed that the animals were the spiritual truths. The gods provided an explanation for natural occurrences in daily life, they were not quite the main part of this religion.

Here is a list and description of the main gods and goddesses...

Tuat: the Egyptian supreme god, invisible, self existent, immortal, omniscient, the creator of heaven, Earth, and the underworld.

Ra: The Egyptian sun god usually represented as a man with a falcon's head, falcon, or a beetle.

Amen: The Egyptian king of gods from Thebes. Amen was identified with Ra in the new kingdom (1550 B.C.-1050 B.C.). The God Amen or Amen-Ra had two Theophanies the ram and goose. Amen's main temple was Karnak the largest religious structure on Earth.

Ptah: The Egyptian god who can say the name of an object and it will appear before him. Ptah was the main deity of Memphis. Ptah is also the god of crafts. Ptah was shown as a man in a tight cloak, a blue skullcap, and was holding a staff with Osiris' backbone amulet on the top. Ptah's wife was Sekhmet the goddess of war shown as a lady with a lioness head or a lion.

Osiris: The Egyptian god of the death. His wife is Isis his mother is Nut and his child is Horus. Osiris became the god of the dead because his brother Seth killed him. He then he found his brother's body again and knew his sister Isis was going to resurrect Osiris, so he dismembered his brothers body and spread it all over Egypt. Eventually Isis found all of Osiris except a hand that got eaten by a crab. Osiris went down to the under world and became the king of the underworld, god of the dead and the first mummy. Benu the phoenix is Osiris' theophanie.

The amulet of the eye was a representation of Horus and Ra. The amulet of the eye was supposed to be the sight of the mummies.

Anubis: Anubis was the god of embalming and protector of the dead. Anubis was usually shown as a man with a jackal's head. Anubis' theophanie was a jackal. Anubis' mother is Nepthys the goddess of tombs and homes and his father was Set the god of disasters.

Sobek: The god of water and marshes . Sobek's theophanie is the crocodile. Sobek's city is at Fayum or Crocodileopolis. At Crocodileopolis (the center cult of Sobek) the priests kept crocodiles in pools and decorated them in jewels. Sobek was depicted as a man with a crocodile's head or a crocodile.

His theophanie is a goat. Khunum's wife is Saitis of Neith. Satis is the goddess with title of divine mother. Their daughter is Anukis goddess of the hunt.

Aten: Aten was the god of the sun and was the only god in Egypt in the time of Pharaoh Akenaten (horizon of Aten). Akenaten created this god because scientists believe as a prince he was neglected because he was deformed. So the royal family didn't include him in religious ceremonies or festivals. And one day he becomes Pharaoh so he decides out with those old gods and in with mine the new combined action-packed Aten. Scientists believe that Akenaten was the first monotheist in history.
