This is a picture of an ancient Egyptian priest.
The Egyptian priests were more oracles than priests, because they were the people that interpreted the messages from the gods and told them to the people and Pharaoh. The priests gave to this system offerings, and they devoted their lives to this system. The priests got from this system recognition with the gods, wisdom, religious power (strangely only a little religious power).
The priests life was special because as a priest only he or she could enter a temple and worship there and no one else could. They would have to shave themselves every three days and wash themselves three times a day!
