This lecture note covers new routines for the Professor's Dream:
1. Melting knot
2. Separate loop
3. 2 ropes (small and long) - becomes equal length and will join to 1 ultimate rope
4. Linking ropes
5. 3 ropes (small, medium and long) - becomes equal length and will join to 1 rope
6. Create bigger loops with many Professor's Dream ropes.

This is the greatest thing to ever happens to the Professor's Nightmare rope effect.
This is the original design from Akanuma in Japan (Trix Magic).
Professor's Nightmare works as follows: Three different size ropes are shown to the audience, and they become three ropes of the same size. This is accomplished with a little sleight-of-hand. Next the ropes become a long and a short rope, and finally return to their original size.
With Professor's Dream you are able to end up with one rope which can be handled with just your fingertips. No Hiding Anything! It is made possible with the addition of rare earth magnets, which literally "snap" the rope together at the ends. You can also create a longer routine that slides a knot to the center and the long rope is divided into 2 ropes that can be linked.
The "knock off " copy is "Professor's Supreme." See this product listed under "Fakers."
The rope is not as soft and the magnet is not as strong (may deterioriate over time). Another "knock off" copy is from Europe - MagicCenterJupiter.com or Jupiter Magic. The copy has the exact title "Professor's Dream" with the instructions but the rope is not from Tokyo Japan. The originals now come in a green cover box.
Trick: The magician displays 3 ropes each a
different length. These quickly change to 3 ropes of equal lengths.
With a flick of the wrist, they change into one long rope.
Apparatus: A long rope
and a short rope have a strong magnet in one end. Another mid-sized
rope has magnets at each end.
Preparation: Hold the
ends of the long, middle, and short gimmick ropes in your left hand
as in Fig. 1, so that the magnet ends of the long and short ropes are
down.
Routine and Presentation:
Follow the illustrations: 1. Show the three ropes held in your left
hand. 2. Take the lower end of the short rope with your right hand
and raise it next to the upper end of the long rope. Switch the lower
end of the short rope with the upper end of the long rope by twisting
them counterclockwise. 3. Place the upper end of the long rope
between the index and middle fingers of your left hand. Fig. 4a is a
detail of the ropes. 5. Hold the 3 ends of A with your left hand and
3 ends of B with your right hand. Then stretch them with both hands.
This will let the ropes even out and apparently change all the ropes
to three of the same length. 6. Hold the ends of B in your left hand,
then raise your left arm to the shoulder height, grasping the end
with no magnet. Release the rest of the ropes from your right hand.
The 3 ropes have become one length of rope. (The magnets used here
are very strong, however, some care must be taken so that the rope
does not entangle or that you don't put unnecessary force on them. As
you manipulate the ropes, test and see how far/hard you can drop
them.)
Linking Rope Trick:
(Use 2 or more
Professor's Dream Rope, or regular rope with Professor's Dream
Rope)
Routine and
Presentation: After
performing the Professor's Dream Rope Trick, tie the ends together
(loop 1). Tie a second Dream Rope at the ends (loop 2). Do the
linking rope routine: Hold magnet portion in the right hand. The
right forefinger and thumb apply gentle pressure to the outer part of
loop 1 causing the magnets to separate allowing second rope loop to
pass downwards through the gap. As soon as loop 1 has cleared the gap
in loop 2, allow the magnets to come together again, leaving two
linked loops. Reverse the process to undo the link. (You may continue
process with a 3rd Professor's Dream Rope)
Optional bigger loops: Use several ropes to create bigger loops by
attaching at magnet points.
Full Dream Routine:
Start with full rope.

Falsely - Tie ends with small rope as knot.

Cut the opening with scissors

Slide the knot to other magnet
Untie
knot and attach magnet to rope ...
now have 2 ropes almost equal

Falsely - Tie ends on one rope and tie ends of other rope

Do the linking rope routine.

Cut the opening with scissors

Slide knot off rope and untie knot

You are now ready for Professor Dream Routine

Another option:
Possible to do Tenyo's "Tetsu Suzuki" 4 Nightmares DX routine:
Start with full rope.

Falsely - Tie ends with small rope as knot.

Cut the opening with scissors

Slide the knot off rope to come up with the 2 ropes attached (medium
and long).
Or separate small rope from other 2 ropes (medium and long).
Start out showing small rope and big rope. Switch places so small rope attaches to medium rope.

Show 2 big ropes. Tie ropes together but switching the small rope to be the knot.

Slide knot off rope.

You start with the medium and long ropes joined together.
Routine 1: Tie a knot around the center magnet using the long rope.
Show that the knot will melt by opening the magnet and pulling the rope through the magnet. You tell audience ... see knot? NOT!

Routine 2: Create a loop by swinging the middle size rope twice around the long rope and reattaching the magnet. The magnet will attach not exactly because of the polarity. Hide the magnets in the hand and slide the loop off the rope.

Routine 3. Attach the long rope magnet to one of the ends of the loop. String one end of the rope in the loop and tug on ends to show 1 long rope again.

Routine 4. Untie the knot of the small rope
and show small. Show the long rope. Cross the small and long rope.
Pull the ends to even out the rope to show rope equals. Attach the
magnet ends to produce 1 long rope. You are ready to start another
routine.
You now have a small rope and a long rope (medium and long as one).
You can do this routine:
Ultimate Joining Ropes:

Created by Toshio Akanumna.
EFFECT:
2 ropes of different length, long and short, magically change to 2 ropes of equal
length when being stretched between the hands. Finally the 2 ropes instantly join in
the center and becomes one length of rope, of which the center can be examined.
APPARATUS AND REQUIREMENTS:
1 long gimmick rope (a magnet is fixed at one end.)
1 short gimmick rope (a magnet is fixed at other end.)
PREPARATION:
Hold the ends of the long and short gimmick ropes in your left hand as in the fig., so
that the magnets ends are downwards. The end of the ropes will be labeled as each
A,B,C and D for convenience of instruction.
ROUTINE AND PRESENTATION:
(1) Show the long and short ropes while separating them, and hold one in each hand.
Next hold the 2 ropes in your left hand as in the fig.
(2) Take End-B (a magnet end) of the short rope with your right hand and raise it
next to the right side of End-C of the long rope.
(3) At the same time switch End-B with End-C by twisting them counterclockwise.
(4) Then place End-C between .the index and middle fingers of your left hand.
(5) Next take End-D of the long rope with your right hand and place it between the
index and second fingers of your left hand.
(6) Take End-C and End-D (placed between the index and middle fingers of your
left hand) with your right hand. Grasp End-A and End-B with your left hand and
End-C and End-D with your light hand as in the fig.
(7) Making a magical pass, stretch the 2 ropes with both hands, showing that the 2
ropes of different length rope have changed to 2 ropes of equal length.
(8) Now twist the right ends of the ropes with your right hand, switching the End-
C with End-D, so that End-D is positioned upwards.
(9) Hold end-B and end-D with both hands so that the magnet ends are hidden
behind both index fingertips.
(10) Bring both hands together so that the 2 ropes are folded in two in the center.
(11) Then secretly let the magnets of End-B and End-D attract. Next have a spectator hold End-A and End-C in both hands.
(12) Now, release both hands at the same time, and allow End-B and End-D to
drop downward, showing that the 2 ropes have joined in the center and become one
length of rope.
(13) Hold the rope with both hands so that the magnets are concealed in your left
hand as in the fig.
(14) Have the rope returned from the spectator. Finally give the rope a nice tug
with both hands, showing that it has no joint in the center, finishing the routine.
You now have the 3 long ropes as one. You can now do the full
Professor's dream routine as in above instructions. Create bigger
loops with more ropes.
Here is the Quicktime Video:
1. Melting knot
2. Separate loop (Can twirl around finger)
