Enjoy a day of family fun with kite making and exciting flying demonstrations.

 

Generously sponsored by Target, these special Saturdays are filled with fun activities giving families

 

11:00 – 4:00 activities: origami wind wheel, origami swan, and Fish Kites. As well as a special mother’s day craft

 

11:00 – Doors open

 

12:00 – Workshop session 1: History of Kites / Kites Around the World / Asian-American Kites (with Kelvin Chun)

 

1:00 – Story Time: “Henry and the Kite Dragon” with Mar Elepano

 

2:00 – Workshop session 2: Paper / Plastic kites - Students create kites of their choice after basic concepts are introduced (with Kelvin Chun)

 

3:30 – Workshop/Demonstration: Flying of Asian - American Kite and Kites the students created (with Kelvin Chun)

 

3:45 – Kite Contest

Kelvin Chun is an award winning educator, magician, balloon sculptor and kite enthusiast.

He is best known for his educational technology background, stage magic, inventive balloon sculptures and kites.

Kelvin Chun, a technology specialist at Nu'uanu Elementary School, has been named one of three Ed Tech Leaders of the Year by Technology & Learning magazine, a trade publication.

Kelvin has performed and presented at numerous conventions and conferences and provided staff development workshops and courses in the field of mathematics, magic, balloons, kites, and emerging technologies and their impact on learning at all ages.
