Jordan:

Can the value of a gift be measured?  Perhaps the value of a gift can be measured in these ways:  by the amount spent on it, by the time spent on preparing it for giving, by the thought that went into the giving of the gift, by the feelings it brings upon receipt of the gift.  However you choose the measure the value of the gift, know that the students of Nu'uanu Elementary want to present you with gifts of songs and dances . . . PRICELESS!

The mele inoa "Lili'u E" was written for our beloved Queen Lili'uokalani.  This name chant, composed by Antone Ka'o'o, was written as an expression of his loyalty and aloha for the Queen.  Our May Day Queen, Queen Chloe, will now perform this hula for you as she honors Hawai'i's last reigning monarch.

Jordan:

So beautifully done!  Thank you, Queen Chloe!

Now, our entire May Day 2009 court will perform for you.  Our song, "Show Me Hokule'a," is a reflection of the journey that has brought us to where we are today.  In 1976, the crew of the Hokule'a made it's maiden journey to Hawaiki Nui also known as Tahiti.  In 2003 we embarked on our journey through Nu'uanu.  We've gained knowledge and have learned lessons that have helped us achieve our goals and led us here today.  Like the crew of the Hokule'a who used the stars to guide them, our parents, families and teachers have been our stars, guiding us through this journey.  We thank them for this, and will continue to rely on them to be our Hokule'a, our guiding star, in our journey through life.
