Nuuanu Five-0

Quicktime Video of Introduction
Camerynn:
Aloha Kakahiaka and welcome parents, friends, staff, and students to Nu'uanu School's May Day 2011 Celebration.
Maya:
50 years ago Nu'uanu Elementary School opened its doors to students. Back then most students walked from their neighboring homes to the school. The school was so new that it only had the kitchen, no seating or stage area of the Cafeteria, Buildings A (the Office and Health Room) and B - that's it. At that time, the Health Room was used as the Library.
Camerynn:
There were only about 50 to 60 First Graders, and no other students. Each year a new Building was added so that those First Graders could continue onward to their final destination: Sixth Grade.
Maya:
Those first First Graders got to enjoy brand new classrooms each year! In fact, one of those first First Graders works here at Nu'uanu Elementary: Mrs. Annette Oda.
Camerynn:
Well, when we are 60 years old, we hope to come back to Nu'uanu to help celebrate its 100th Birthday - maybe with our own families and with our friends. And we will talk about the field trips we went on, the fun we had with our classmates and teachers, Family Fun Night activities, our May Day performances - oh yeah - and what we learned.
Maya:
The students of Nu'uanu would like to dedicate this year's May Day performances to all of Nu'uanu's past, present and future students.
Camerynn & Maya:
We love you Nu'uanu - Happy '5' '0'!!!!

Camerynn:
Puna Paia 'A'ala, a waltz composed by Queen Lili'uokalani, describes a special place and a special love. As our years at Nu'uanu come to a close, we are reminded of our special place, Nu'uanu - where we have found love and made friendships and memories that will remain in our hearts forever.
In honor of our May Day king and queen, the fifth graders will sing Puna Paia 'A'ala. A big mahalo to Makua Kaulana and na kumu from E Mele Kakou.

Like the home of Mrs. Tam, Nu'uanu School has become a gathering place for all of us. She has welcomed us to her campus and given us the opportunity to meet and make many friends over the years. She stands tall and majestic in this beautiful valley. Her beauty surrounds us everyday in the mountains, trees and the wind and rain. We dance this song with great love and aloha to say "thank you" to all of our teachers, and staff for giving us a wonderful and solid start as we embark on the next journey in our lives. Aloha to all and please enjoy our mele...Ku'u Hoaloha...our friends.
