NUUANU SCHOOL/COMMUNITY BASED MANAGEMENT COUNCIL

The Nuuanu Elementary School/Community Based Management Council (Nuuanu SCBM Council) is designed to improve and enhance the quality of our children's education. In November, 1993, the Board of Education (BOE) approved Nuuanu School's Proposal of Implementation and the establishment of Nuuanu Elementary as an SCBM school. The SCBM Council meets once per quarter and minutes of all meetings are posted on the Parent-Community Networking Center (P.C.N.C.) bulletin board.

The purposes of the Council are:

1. to promote the vision, mission and philosophy of Nuuanu Elementary School.

2. to develop through shared decision-making among school administrator(s), teachers, support staff, parents, students and the community:

a. a democratic system that will actively and directly shape the quality of education offered.

b. an environment for creative teaching and learning.

c. a climate that enhances the love of learning and the tools to excel.

d. a focus on issues related to the quality of the educational program.

e. a forum for input from teachers, classified staff, administrator(s), parents, students and school/community members of Nuuanu Elementary School.

The Nuuanu School SCBM Council has adopted the Department of Education's Success Com pact Literacy model and has endorsed the implementation of parent, faculty and staff training on this model. A parent/school technology committee approved by the SCBM council was formed to retrofit the school with a Local Area Network (LAN) so that we will have the facilities and the means to prepare our children to become technologically literate.
