Department of Education and Nuuanu School

The State Department of Education (DOE) is a single, unified public school system with seven school districts: Hawaii; Maui, Molokai and Lanai; Honolulu; Central; Leeward; Windward; and Kauai and Niihau. The Board of Education is the principal executive body of the DOE. The Board is empowered by law to formulate policies and to exercise control over the public school system through the State Superintendent of Education who is the chief executive officer of the DOE. The State Legislature exercises fiscal control over all expenditures for public education. Each school district has a School Advisory Council whose members are appointed by the Governor. They serve in an advisory capacity to the Board of Education and District Superintendent.

Nuuanu School is part of the Honolulu District. Honolulu District is divided into six com plexes: Kaiser, Kalani, Kaimuki, Roosevelt, McKinley and Farrington. A complex consists of several elementary schools feeding into intermediate schools and the high school of a particular area. Nuuanu Elementary School is part of the Roosevelt Complex along with the following schools:

Maemae, Pauoa, Lincoln, Manoa, Noelani, Stevenson Intermediate, Kawananakoa Intermediate and Roosevelt High School.
