Nuuanu School received more grants to assist in the robotics program for the next school year:

1) HSTA Good Idea

Grant Program - $7,500

HSTA Letter

Sometimes, you just need someone to believe in you and your ideas. That's why we are committed to the Public Schools of Hawaii Foundation's "Good Idea" grant program. Since 1985, over $3,000,000 grants have supported good ideas in public elementary, middle, and high schools throughout the State of Hawaii.

 

The Good Idea Grant Program is designed to enhance innovation in the classroom by challenging teachers to think creatively and boldly and helping all children to reach high levels of achievement. Mini-grants provide the needed financial resources not available through usual government channels.

 

2) TANF (The Federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) ) grant that follows these guidelines:

One of the requirements is having an afterschool robotics program with these kits.

3) ROC FLL Grant:

Congratulations! The ROC grant application you submitted has been approved, it will cover national FLL registration plus the required FLL season field set up kit. 94 teams submitted grant applications.

-September 3, 2011 - International FOOD FACTOR season kick off

September 16, 2011 - Hawai'i FLL FOOD FACTOR kick-off, more information soon

-Oct. 29, Nov. 5, Nov. 12 - Hawai'i FLL District Tournaments, more information soon

-Dec. 3, 2011 - 7th Annual Hawai'i FLL Championship, NBC Center, Honolulu, HI

Snack Attack registration will open in August 2011.

Awardees

The $3,494 3M Foundation grant is payable to your school or school district, which in turn, will make arrangements for purchase of materials. Materials purchased by the grant are the property of the school or district that receives the award.

A Honolulu District Inquiry-Based Gifted and Talented Program
Project SPARK II, Rekindled

Honolulu District Schools teachers and students are invited to participate in and actualize an inquiry-based, multi-disciplinary program for gifted and talented learners.

Project SPARK II, Rekindled (Solving Problems and Reaching for Knowledge) is designed to be an outside-of-school science and math academy infused with opportunities to maximize technology as a resource for learning. Honolulu District teachers will be offered professional development opportunities via a series of workshops designed to raise their confidence in science teaching and further their understanding through growth and instructional effectiveness.

Games are an integral part of the Everyday Mathematics program. EM Games offers popular computer games that make basic skills practice fun. EM Games are available online or on CD-ROM for Early Childhood (PreK-K) through Grade 6.

These grade-level appropriate games provide practice with concepts and basic skills; build computational and math fluency; and add a little friendly competition to help motivate learning.
