Wednesday, Nov 22, 2017 3:00 p.m. Nuuanu Office Conference Room
Present: Sandra Peralta, Classified Staff, Lori Yamada, Community Rep, Lindsay Chambers, Parent Rep, James Toyooka, Administration Rep, Capri Matthyssen and Amber Lam, Student Rep.
Absent: Janice Kam, Teacher Rep.
First order of business was the election of a new SCC president. Current president, Sandra Peralta, will be retiring on December 31, 2017 so a replacement is needed. All five role groups voted and elected Janice Kam to be the next president.
Next item was the approval of the Nuuanu School financial plan for the 2018 – 19 SY. Portion being looked at and considered was for school personnel both classified and certificated. Number of position was status quo so approved.
Other issues: Administration is recommending hiring a technical person to help with our increasing number of school computers. All classroom now have a computer cart. Person could both trouble shoot and help in the classrooms. Other recommendation was hiring a person to help with office duties since we only have two workers. Suggestion now is to hire a person, PTT, who can and able to do both office work and trouble shoot computers and programs.
Student representatives were in agreement that the school’s academic and curriculum are sound, beneficial, and teachers are good. Concerns raised was the down time when the computers are not functioning (they needed help to correct this), soap and paper towels in the restrooms, heavy backpacks, and some students jumping to grab the cross bars in the walkways during and after recess.
Hiring a PTT to help with computer issues and trouble shooting was mentioned as one possibility to help whenever the computers were giving problems.
Principal will write to all teachers and have them remind their students about not jumping to grab the cross bars while walking. Some students have been hurt when they did this as they slipped or swayed awkwardly and landed wrong hitting their head on the concrete pavement.
Custodians will be reminded to fill soap dispensers and towel holders every morning or at night. Teachers will be reminded to have hand sanitizers available to their students in the classroom.
No answer for heavy backpacks as this is a student’s or teacher choice regarding number of books a student will need.
Meeting ended at 3:50 p.m. No new meeting date set, but likely to occur during third quarter.
Next meeting: TBD
